The University of Florida is excited to have Dan Mullen back wearing the blue and orange as their head coach this year.

Mullen served as the Gator’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach from 2005-2008. Mullen has been the head coach of Mississippi State since then. ESPN’s Chris Low sat down with Mullen to talk about Mullen’s transition.

Mullen is no stranger to the SEC. Having coached in the league for so long, he understands what it takes. Mullen says he “understands the pressures and demands of this league.” Having all that experience gives him a little bit of an advantage. Already having coached at Florida too is a benefit for him. Mullen said “to already have known some of the surprise things that are out there has made the adjustment easier.”

Florida won the National Championship in 2008, but has not quite been that successful since. Dan Mullen is looking to bring back the success Florida can have. Mullen says “they have to outwork everyone in the country if we want to be successful.” Mullen also said that “guys in the past won because they were invested in the program.” Mullen has had success coaching great players, including quarterbacks like Tim Tebow and Dak Prescott. He knows how to get players invested and excited to play. That will be the difference for the Gators this season.

One of the main things Mullen is looking to do is to bring the fun back into Florida Gator football. Mullen says that “Gator fans associate fun with points.” Even if they don’t win the game, if they score a lot of points, the fans will be happy. He wants the players and the fans to have fun and enjoy watching the game. Mullen says he “wants guys to enjoy playing and have fun and look like their enjoying life.” The fun will be going back and forth between the fans and players all season. Many are expecting Dan Mullen to make the Gators a top team again.
